In this video, Tokyo-based company Mirai is laying down a new way to farm. Known as vertical farming, this modern method doesn’t require perfect soil, weather, or sunlight. Let’s face it, whether you believe in global warming or not, the climate has the potential to ruin crops and can seriously cost those that are seeking to eat healthy. Why not have farms in a city or near your vicinity?
Vertical farming is environmentally friendly with recycling even the water that’s drained from the plants. Working indoors the evaporation from the water is meticulously collected. Who said that farming shouldn’t just be for a rural community? And who says that this technology shouldn’t also be left for an urban community? Is this type of farming the solution to reestablish ghost towns? Who knows if an urban decayed landscape may be seeded again with this technology and sprout. One thing is for sure, we are all connected in some way and this sort of farming technology needs to continue expanding.
With the Mirai company eventually shutting it’s doors since the filming of this video, we now look to flourishing companies. As AeroFarms, Sky Greens, Gotham Greens, and Green Sense Farms continue to scale and profit in this industry, we anxiously await other companies sprouting up and continue evolving.
